I CANNOT IMAGINE A TRULY BEAUTIFUL WORLD WITHOUT COURTESY BEING INTEGRAL TO ITS CULTURE.” – HRISHIKESH AGNIHOTRI –

COURTESY MAKES THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

Being COURTEOUS is not always easy but it does make a difference. Imagine if everybody in the world was courteous all the time. The world would be a much better place. Sometimes it is not always easy to be courteous but it is the right thing to do. If there is a time you think you might not be able to use good MANNERS and RESPECT toward a person or situation, consider walking away, cooling down and then returning to address the issue. Taking the high road and being courtesy in all situations will make a positive difference.

Ask Your Students:

  1. Has there been a time it was hard for you to be courteous? Has somebody not shown you courtesy?

“NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN OFFENDED BY SOMEONE WITH GOOD MANNERS AND COURTEOUS BEHAVIOR.” – VIKRANT PARSAI

PEOPLE LIKE NICE PEOPLE.

You are not ever going to offend anybody by being nice and courteous. People enjoy being around pleasant people and are drawn to them. If you have a negative attitude and treat people poorly you will see the effects of that. People won’t want to be around you or invite you places. If you are a nice, positive person you will benefit from that by making more friends and earning a great reputation. It is always best to use courteous behavior. When you do, you will reap the rewards of it.

Ask Your Students:

  1. What is courtesy to you?
  2. Have you ever been the person with a bad attitude? How did you change that?
  3. Why do you make more friends being courteous?
  4. What are some of the other benefits of being courteous?

“GRATITUDE IS THE MOST EXQUISITE FORM OF COURTESY.” – JACQUES MARITAIN –

ALWAYS BE THANKFUL.

Gratitude and courtesy go hand in hand. Gratitude is being thankful and showing your APPRECIATION. You are being very courteous when you show gratitude. We should always show gratitude to the things and people we are thankful for — that could be your parents, siblings, teacher or your instructor. Consider writing them a handwritten thank you note or drawing them a picture. You can also show your appreciation by going above and beyond what is expected of you.

Ask Your Students:

  1. What are you grateful for?
  2. Do you show appreciation for the important things in your life.
  3. How is being grateful also courteous?
  4. Do you show your gratitude in our class?
LETTER PARENT/GUARDIAN APR 2018
Dear parents and/or guardians…
This month we are learning about courtesy and why it is such an important skill to develop and use. Being courteous to everybody is expected in our class. Our students should be courteous to their classmates, instructors and any visitors in the building. Courtesy should also be used at home and at school. Students should know and understand why it is important to be courteous, that sometimes it is difficult to show courtesy, the benefits of being courteous and different ways to show courtesy.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
• Be a role model – Kids quickly pick up and mimic the actions of their parents. If they see their parents being courteous, they will be courteous. But if they see parents behaving poorly, they will follow that example as well.
• Books and videos – there are several books and videos available to demonstrate good manners and courtesy in story form. These educational pieces can help kids get a visual idea of how to be courteous all the time. It is important not only to read and watch these with your kids, but also to talk about them after and make sure kids understand the concept.
• Require kids to use manners. Make sure your kids are saying please and thank you when they ask for something. Teach them not to interrupt people when they are talking. Ensure they understand why it is important to use manners at all times.
• Make sure your kids know the importance of GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP. If your kids play sports try not to allow any complaining or moping if they lose. Instead encourage your kids to congratulate their opponents on a good game. If they are the winner, make sure they are gracious winners and not rubbing it in the losing team’s face.
