Dedication is an important life skill to have. Being dedicated is to believe something is very important and putting a lot of time and energy into it. When you’re dedicated you keep trying even when it gets hard or when you want to give up.
“IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND HAVE DEDICATION AND PRIDE – AND NEVER QUIT, YOU’LL BE A WINNER. THE PRICE OF VICTORY IS HIGH BUT SO ARE THE REWARDS.” – PAUL BRYANT
DEDICATION IS ABSOLUTELY LOVING SOMETHING AND DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP PUSHING FOR THAT GOAL.
Dedication means being committed to a task or a PURPOSE. Dedication is having COMMITMENT but it is also going above and beyond what you need to do to fulfill your task or purpose at hand. For example, your teachers at school work hard teaching
students and being prepared for their daily classes. A teacher that is dedicated finds amazing activities, keeps parents involved, tutors students before and after school and even attends sporting events when invited by students. To be a dedicated student, whether it be in school or in the martial arts studio, you would PRACTICE extra, study harder, do extra credit activities and help your friends and peers exceed as well.
“SUCCESS IS DETERMINED BY THE AMOUNT OF WORK YOU PUT IN. BE ALL IN OR GET OUT. THERE IS NO HALFWAY.”– UNKNOWN –
Why do some people succeed in MARTIAL ARTS and some give up before reaching their goals of becoming a BLACK BELT? One very important factor in being successful is your dedication. Someone can have all the skills and intelligence needed to become an amazing black belt but if they are not dedicated they may never reach their goals. You must dedicate your time to learning, practicing and perfecting the skill you need to keep reaching each color belt until you have reached your ultimate goal. Even if martial arts is just a hobby you really enjoy, you still haveto dedicate yourself to learning SELF DEFENSE, building your CHARACTER and mastering the physical and mental demands of the sport. Part of being dedicated is doing the right thing even if you don’t really want to which can include going to martial arts class instead of riding bikes with your friends, or spending 30 minutes a day at home practicing your skills so that you are ready for your next sparring match. So long as you know you are dedicated to your sport, you will reach your GOALS and SUCCEED.
” WE ALL HAVE DREAMS. BUT IN ORDER TO MAKE DREAMS COME INTO REALITY, IT TAKES AN AWFUL LOT OF DETERMINATION, DEDICATION, SELF-DISCIPLINE, AND EFFORT.” – JESSE OWENS –
DEDICATION IS MAKING A DECISION.
When it comes to martial arts there are two ways you can approach it. You can take it on as a part time hobby to learn self defense, build your character and improve your physical and mental well being. The second way to approach martial arts is to accept it as your WAY OF LIFE. When choosing martial arts as a way of your life, you are choosing to improve the QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE and others by LEADING BY EXAMPLE. Dedication to martial arts involves LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, choosing the right foods to eat, not partaking in illegal drugs and activities and becoming a POSITIVE INFLUENCE on those who surround you. Dedicating yourself to martial arts means that you will learn and practice the ability to DO THE RIGHT THINGS and MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES. You are also allowing yourself to become PHYSICALLY FIT, FLEXIBLE and HEALTHY.
You are also allowing yourself to become a positive role model and influence on your friends, family and peers. Dedicating yourselfto martial arts means following the MORALS and ETHICS of the sport and being an example of that always.
“PASSION IS ABOUT DOING WHAT YOU LOVE. DEDICATION IS PERSEVERANCE AND HARD WORK. ADD THEM TOGETHER AND IT EQUALS FUEL FOR SUCCESS!” – BROOKE GRIFFIN –
When you are dedicated to something in your life you can develop an intense emotion and compelling enthusiasm or desire for it. This is called a passion, having a very strong feeling about a person or thing. It is important to figure out what you are passionate about in life and follow through with it. Dedication and passiongo hand in hand. When you have so much love for something, like martial arts, your dedication will shine. Your passion can motivate you, intrigue you, challenge you and most of all put you to work. Natural talents can lead to finding something you are passionate about. Lots of people find this through music, math, science or sports, just like martial arts. You are probably inclined in sports and do well in martial arts. That gives you an extra boost to love it even more and want to succeed. If you have a passion for martial arts you will continue to improve and build your skill set, SHARE YOUR LOVE WITH OTHER PEOPLE BY WORD OF MOUTH OR BRINGING THEM INTO THE SPORT, AND CONTINUING TO STAY DEDICATED AND REACH YOUR GOAL OF BECOMING BLACK BELT.
Dear parents and/or guardians…
This month we are learning about dedication and why it is important to understand. It is important for your children to realize they need to stay committed and persevere in the sport of martial arts to reach their goals whether it be to lose weight, get in shape, learn self defense or to obtain their black belt. To do this they need dedication to their sport.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
ENCOURAGE your children when they show a great interest. Your child might excel in math, sports, or art, but when they show you or tell you how much they love something, help them focus their energy to find their passion in life.
VOLUNTEERING. Let your children volunteer in activities they want to learn more about. If your child is interested in a new sport, have them attend a summer camp and be a coach, or if they love animals, let them volunteer at a local shelter. Volunteering can help open their minds and their heart to see what they can dedicate their time and passion to.
PUT IN OVERTIME. Allow your children to spend extra time practicing martial arts so they can keep climbing the belt ranks. Dedication means to keep building their skill set to reach their goals.
BE AND EXAMPLE. Show your children that you can accomplish a goal because of your determination. Make a simple short goal, but do not give up and have your children help you along the way to track your progress.
