June 2017 – Word of the Month

How do you measure success? Success should not be measured by appearance, friends, or grades. Success is personal to each one of us and is best measured in terms of Confidence, determination, and accomplishing goals set for yourself. When we begin to understand success from the inside, we become successful leaders.
“BE FEARLESS IN THE PURSUIT OF WHAT SETS YOUR SOUL ON FIRE.” – Unknown
SUCCESS IS THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF A GOAL OR PURPOSE
Everyone wants to be successful at every endeavor they embark upon. Your goal might be to become a black belt in martial arts or to be able to do the splits. To be successful, you need to be prepared. Having a success map or plan to help guide you and being prepared mentally and physically will help you reach your goal and become successful. You need to be mentally prepared so you can face your fears and your roadblocks. You should also practice being physically prepared knowing that martial arts is a physical sport. You always want to go into practice with focus, energy and enthusiasm. Be sure that while working toward something like attaining black belt, you prepare yourself for every milestone and obstacle that may come your way.
“ACTION IS THE FOUNDATIONAL KEY TO ALL SUCCESS.” – PABLO PICASSO
SUCCESS IS DETERMINED BY THE AMOUNT OF WORK YOU PUT IN.
ACTION IS THE FOUNDATIONAL KEY TO ALL SUCCESS.
Success not only shows in the results, but also in the effort you put into doing the best you can. Do you want to achieve your next belt rank so that you keep climbing to black belt? Do you want to get an A at the end of the year in your math class? Whatever your goal is, you must put in the work to achieve it. You must put time and effort into anything you want to succeed at. When it comes to martial arts, you must take the time and show up to class, participate, listen, learn and then practice until you master your skill. It is the same in school. If you want to earn an A in mathematics, you must go to class, listen, learn, practice and study. If you set aside a certain amount of time every week towards your goals then you will, in the end, become successful.
“CONFIDENCE COMES NATURALLY WITH SUCCESS BUT SUCCESS COMES ONLY TO THOSE WHO ARE CONFIDENT.” MELCHOR LIM
CONFIDENCE IS PART OF THE FOUNDATION OF GREAT SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT.
Confidence plays a huge role in everyone’s daily lives. People who have high confidence in themselves usually experience greater success and happiness. How you feel and think about yourself has a huge impact on your ability to perform and achieve your goals. Having a healthy self-image can help you push through obstacles and difficult situations and allow you to rise to the top and remain successful. If you do not believe in your own abilities, then other people will not either. That could mentally drain you and cause you to believe that you are incapable of getting all A’s in school or getting your black belt in martial arts. When you believe in yourself and believe in your potential, other people will see that and treat you accordingly. This in turn helps you achieve your goals and remain successful in anything you set out to accomplish.
“THE SUCCESSFUL WARRIOR IS THE AVERAGE MAN, WITH LASER-LIKE FOCUS.” BRUCE LEE
YOU HAVE TO BE DEDICATED TO THE GOALS YO ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
At this point in your life you might be interested in basketball, video games, playing drums and martial arts. Many people have several interests and would like to do something with all of those interests, but you will not see the success you desire until you become realistic about what kind of success you’re after and dedicate yourself to that goal. If you choose to be dedicated to martial arts, and earn your black belt, then you will not give up or lose focus before achieving that. Success is different for everyone. For the person sitting next to you, success might be sticking with martial arts for one year while the next person sees success only if they achieve their black belt. No matter what success looks like to you, you have to stay focused and remain dedicated. If you love martial arts and have a passion for it, it will not be hard to stay dedicated and become as successful as you wish to be.
Success means something different to each individual, but achieving success requires the same skills such as determination, preparedness, hard work and dedication.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Educate your children about goal setting. Help your child develop their own definition of success. Children get more enjoyment out of activities and learning if they are allowed to measure their own growth and progress.
Let your children fail. Letting your children fail can be one of the most critical things to help your children learn. Just as when they were toddlers learning to walk, you let them fall so they could get back up again and keep trying.
Concentrate on what your child is good at. Focus on their strengths. Children are not always good at everything they try. If your child shows a better skill set for math and science than poetry and painting, let them excel instead of pointing out how they struggle with artistic endeavors. This can also help them focus on an activity and hopefully become dedicated to it.
Lead by example. Show your children your successes in life. How did you achieve these successes and how did you determine what success was for you?
Help your children prepare for overcoming their fears and obstacles. It is important for children to be able to move past tough times in order to achieve the level of success they desire.
Write down the small goals and accomplishments that will lead up to your child being successful in school, sports and at home.
