April 2017 – Word of the Month
03 Apr 2017
At Ajay’s Karate – we do more than teach kicks and punches, and we ARE NOT a daycare. We teach traditional TAEKWONDO with real LIFE SKILLS. This month we will highlight one of the intrinsic values gained through martial arts training – and that word is CONFIDENCE.
OPTIMISM IS THE FAITH THAT LEADS TO ACHIEVEMENT. NOTHING CAN BE DONE WITHOUT HOPE AND CONFIDENCE. – HELEN KELLER –
Positive affirmations. Positive self-talk is a very important way to build your confidence. Focus on positive “I am” messages and use “I can” instead of “I can’t”. When all else fails, say, “ I can’t now, but I will soon.”
TO FEEL CONFIDENT YOU MUST ACT CONFIDENT. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING YOU CAN WEAR IS CONFIDENCE. – BLAKE LIVELY –
Did you know that the way you walk, talk and behave says a lot about you as a person? It can also determine if someone wants to choose you to pick on for bullying. Most communication with other people is non-verbal. This means that the way we represent ourselves, the way we act and how we talk dictates how other people will perceive us. If you are lacking confidence in the way you represent yourself, you may become a victim of bullying because you are an easy target for someone looking to hurt someone else. How do you exude confidence to keep from being targeted? You walk and talk with confidence. Walk with your head up and your shoulders back. Do not slouch or look at the ground while you walk. Be sure to have good hygiene by showering, brushing your teeth and brushing your hair. Wear clothes that make you feel good so you can walk around proud.
Confident people tend to do some of the same things and have qualities and behaviors that result in higher self-esteem. Some examples include doing what they believe to be right even if it is an unpopular choice, being willing to take risks, admitting to mistakes and being able to learn from them, giving and accepting compliments and being very optimistic. If you are not naturally confident, take some of these signs and implement them into your daily life as much as possible.
